March 25: Friday Five
Each Friday we will be sharing our round-up of the best design and marketing news for the week. Here is a list of some of our favorite finds. Enjoy reading and have a great weekend!
1. DesignLoveFest's Social Media Workshop
I often get asked by clients how to use social media to improve website sales, traffic, and overall brand awareness. One of my favorite fellow designers just posted a brand new online workshop this week. The 1.5 hour video seminar is taught by Bri Emery, who has grown her social following to over 1.5 million people. Learn tricks about how to use instagram, facebook, twitter and pinterest for your growing business. This class is open to all levels – it doesn’t matter if you have 5 followers or 100,000. Previous attendees of this class have experienced social growth of more than 400% in the months following the seminar! Sign Up Here
2. #AskGaryVee Book Giveaway
If you don't know about #AskGaryVee then you have been missing out! Meet Gary Vaynerchuk. Fresh out of college he took his family wine business and grew it from a $3M to a $60M business in just five years. Now he runs VaynerMedia, one of the world’s hottest digital agencies. Along the way he became a prolific angel investor and venture capitalist, investing in companies like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Uber, and Birchbox before eventually co-founding VaynerRSE, a $25M investment fund. Check out the #AskGaryVee podcast where he answers all your questions about marketing, social media, and entrepreneurship. Today, he is giving away five of his new books! Visit his Instagram post here to win.
3. From Artist to Entrepreneur
From the Shopify blog we found another great podcast for your Friday listening! Your passions offer the best clue as to where you'll find happiness in life. And we live in a world of endless possibilities where there are more ways than ever to make a living doing what you love. Listen to Eric Rosner, a designer-turned-entrepreneur who created The Art Pillow to showcase and share his passion for making art.
4. @MariaForleo How to be Uber- Successful without being an Asshat
I am partly sharing this post from business coach Maria Forleo because she mentions my new favorite show Billions. Let's take a minute to discuss this guilty pleasure of a television program. If you loved Homeland and miss Damian Lewis and want to see him go head to head with the talented Paul Giamatti as a U.S. Attorney then call off your plans this weekend and get caught up. But really the story here is that the main character does some pretty ruthless things in business to get ahead. Maria discusses on her new Youtube video how to succeed in any business or team while still holding on to your values. Enjoy watching!
5. eCommerce Pick of The Week
Just in time for Easter weekend - check out the new launch of candy website, sees.com. I used to visit the See's Candy stores when I lived in California. Although we can't find them here on the east coast this eComm site has all of the whimsy and character of their stores. The typography and graphics are a combination of vintage and modern, not an easy feat for a website. Check out Communication Art's write up on this pick of the week:
"Confectionery See’s Candies sought to extend its online presence with a site that would feature the digital equivalent of walking into one of its retail stores. Digital agency LiveArea designed and developed a collection of four integrated sites that seamlessly blend an e-commerce experience with the charm, heritage and personality of the See’s Candies company. A striking monochromatic color palette plays on the confectionery’s graphic identity, while vintage aesthetics and images hearken to the days when color process film was commonplace. Intuitive navigation immerses visitors in the brand, and the “Build a Box” page enables customers to create their own box of See’s candies, exactly like the company’s brick-and-mortar stores."
